Yoga X, day 4 of P90X

AnaliseHi everyone!

Today was yoga.  It was a very long workout, but I got through it.  What was tough for me today was the fact that I am still really sore from Plyometrics!!  Trying to stay calm when your muscles are aching so bad is not easy!!  I was able to do all of the exercises in the first half.  The ones where you go to plank, then to downward dog, and runners pose and all that stuff.  When it came to the balance posture holds, I had a hard time here.  I was able to do some of the easier ones,   but I couldn’t get the one where you basically balance upside down on your hands.  Of course I was able to get through the stretches at the end with no problem.  I think next thursday I will do better if I’m not as sore!

Still sticking to the diet plan.  I had 3 egg whites with low fat cheese and plain hot tea this morning.  I had a cup of tomato soup for lunch and I didn’t get around to my snacks yet, but I feeling kinda hungry so I think I will have some cottage cheese and fruit when I am done with this post.  For dinner, I am planing on having grilled chicken with some veggies and one cup of brown rice.  I’ll also get in a protein bar in sometime later.

I took the day off of work today because my fiance had an appointment, so besides running after my son and picking my daughter up from school, I got some cleaning in to prevent myself from being a couch potato!  We all know what that leads to…….junk food!  Can’t have any of that!

Be back tomorrow!

    Hi Erin,
Good to hear from you again!
This weekend I’ll be starting the program. I’ve done all the prep work in the books and now I’m getting our kitchen ready for my new healthy lifestyle. I hate to say this but I couldn’t just get rid of the stuff I had because money is tight now and I don’t want to waste food and also we are living on a budget so I’ll be able to buy most of the food needed to change.

I don’t know how you do it…kids, work, fiance, house, etc…
I must say that I have it pretty easy then. Husband and me, that’s it! My husband doesn’t know it yet, but his diet will be changing as well…I think he’ll be happy when the pounds he wants to shed come off too.

Keep up the good work! You continue to inspire me…I still work out at the gym, trying to build up my endurance – today was weight lifting and eliptical, tomorrow is an hour of spinning…then P90X starts! I’m excited.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences. Talk to you soon!

    Hi Joy,

I am in the same boat with the food! I have a strict food budget so I am sort of keeping it simple. It’s also hard to feed my kids some of the stuff I have been eating, so I keep it simple for me and cook what they want like I normally do! It is tough trying to maintain sanity at home, but somehow my fiance and I get through it!

Even if your husband is a little bit reluctant to change his diet, he will be happy when he sheds a few pounds too! It’s always nice to have a common goal with your significant other. My fiance is feeling a little soggy in the midsection and has started working out too. He’s not going to do the P90X with me, he just likes to hit the bench and run around the neighborhood. I wish I could get him to eat better (he eats tons of carbs and loves sweets), but he is as picky as my kids!

I do also have a gym membership that I use from time to time. Not as frequently as I should for what I’m paying for it, but I do like to jump on the elliptical machine from time to time. I too need to build up my endurance! I think preparing yourself for the P90X by going to the gym is a great idea because you need some kind of stamina right out of the box!

I am also looking forward to hearing how you are doing with this program!

    Hi,
Today I’m going to the Yoga…I really feel a lot of pain on my legs. How long did it take for you to get over the pain.

    Hello Rasoul,

I was pretty sore for about a week. I use the P90X recover formula which really helps. Not only long term, but immediately after you work out. Yoga also helps with the soreness because of the stretching you are doing. During the workout it might hurt, but when you are done you will feel a little better.

    Good luck!

Erin, thanks for this blog. I’ve saved it and read yours and several others every day. I’m on day 4 of P90X Classic (my wife is doing P90X Lean). It’s really a commitment to keep going, especially through the soreness. I’ve found it’s really not as bad…yeah it hurts like crazy…but once I’m on the mat I’m good to go. Tony Horton is hilarious! Love his attitude and wily personality.
Besides taking MMA last year for a few months, I’ve been a big runner. I had to take a month off from my interval running, and let an ankle injury heal before we could begin. Now we’re going full throttle and following the nutrition plan to the “T”. We completely cleaned out our refrigerator and cabinets and bought only what we needed. I totally agree with the recovery formula. I’m not using the P90X formula; just something similar (nearly the same ingredients). Without that, I probably wouldn’t be able to walk from the parking deck to my office every day.
    Thanks again for this blog!

Hi Stephen! Thanks for saving me!!!

It really is a commitment……if you want results anyway. You’re totally right. Once you start working out, it’s all good. It’s bringing yourself to do it everyday thats the hard part.

Tony is crazy and can be annoying at times, but he does keep you motivated.

Cleaning out your cabinets and fridge is the best thing you can do for your diet!!! If I didn’t have 3 picky eaters at home, I would do the same!!! I have to buy hot dogs and boxed mac and cheese for my kids! My fiance doesn’t care too much for “healthier” foods either! I am very good with breakfast, lunch and my snacks because it’s all around my workout and it’s easy to take a cup of tomato soup to work. Dinner is always a challenge! To try and make something healthy for me, but at the same time tasty enough for my family to eat!

The recovery formula does rock! I also like Shakeology. Maybe I will make that a regular part of my diet for round two. I actually mixed the two sometimes in my first round!

Oh….are you going to continue to run on top of P90X? I tried to get a treadmill session in once in a while during my first round, but it wasn’t a regular thing. I love P90X, but I don’t feel like there is enough cardio, unless you do doubles. I want to add running or swimming, maybe on saturday mornings to help my lungs out a bit!

    Talk to you soon!!

Yeah, the healthy eating doesn’t bother me, as long as I turn my head on the commercials showing pizza and burgers. DOH!
My wife, bless her, is addicted to anything with icing on it, so she’s really hating the food. But it will be good for us to get this in control before we get into our mid-30’s in a few years.
I don’t know, even more-so than the exercising, I think the most tiring thing is preparing meals. I can’t imagine having kids, too. WOW! I’m working 8+ hours a day, eating 5-times, working out daily, and now suddenly having to “think”/”schedule”/”prepare” meals for a day in advance. No fun. By the time that’s done, it’s bedtime. Thank God for weekends! Oh wait, we’re working out then, too. ROFL
My wife is more addicted to running than I am. She was running 6-miles every 3 times a week. I’ve mainly only ran intervals 3 times a week up until I twisted my ankle. Now that it’s healed (I know it is because it handled Plyo) I’m planning on getting back into running…but with lack of time, it may only be a Saturday or Sunday run, for me.

Erin…sorry for the delayed response. Yeah, I may include a day of running (maybe on a Saturday when I have time) in the next week or so. I scuba dive a lot during the summer months, so that may be all I can handle.
It’s not so much I can’t handle the running, it’s finding the time. Seems like all I do is sleep/work/prepare food/cook supper/exercise/shower and repeat. I’m lucky to sneak in an hour of our favorite shows.
(YAWN!) On day 11 now! Yoga…oh, man! Stretch me in half and call me Gumby. LOL

    Hey Stephen,

yeah, it’s a commitment!!! Takes up a good portion of your day! I did the portions approach because I don’t have that much time and I know my kids wont eat the food in the guide!

I wish I could do some extra running or swimming. P90X doesn’t have much cardio and I could use it!!!

Congrats so far and keep up the good work!

Finished day 3 yesterday and working on some yoga tonight. Pretty excited about the yoga. I know it won’t be easy, but it will be nice to give my knee a rest from all of those high-impact workouts.
Another round of ab-ripper yesterday was a bit tough for me, seeing as how my abs were still killing from day 1. But me and my friend pushed through, and we are having fun in the process making fun of some of the things Tony says. I don’t know how you do it alone…having a friend do it with me really helps with the motivation and not to skip any of the workouts.
Your blog really helps with my motivation as well. I know there isn’t ton of weight loss on this regimen, but you cen definitely see the results in your photos! Great job! I’m thinking of adding some more cardio to the end of my workouts to speed up the weight loss a bit. I’ve put on about 15 lbs of boyfriend-blubber since we moved in together, and I would love to get back down to my normal weight.
    Here’s hoping!

Hi Christi, I wish I had a workout partner but this blog does give me some motivation to get up and work out every morning! Don’t limit your possibilities based on what I lost. I honestly could have put a little more effort into this and followed the diet more closely. I would have lost a few more pounds if I had. But still, this program works even if you don’t put in 100% everyday, but most of the time! I am not recommending that you don’t put int 100% though!! Go at it will everything you have and you will get better results than I did!!

Yoga X hurt a lot, but it felt so good afterwards! Kind of wary of legs and back tomorrow since I just got over being sore from those groups. Thanks for the blog by the way, its very helpful to see that there are others taking the challenge and going through similar experiences!

    Erin Reply:

    Hey Sabil,

that soreness will go away soon, and might come back when you start the next phase, but it’s all worth it!!
