Day 3: Shoulders and Arms

LunchGood afternoon everyone!  Today’s workout was shoulders and arms.  It was a great workout for me.  I got through the whole workout, no breaks.  But because this was the first time doing this workout, I did have to pause the DVD to figure out what weight I should use and to position the band correctly.  I am recording everything I do with the P90X worksheets, so next time around, this workout will run more smoothly.  I will know exactly what bands to pick up and what is coming next.  For me, the 10, 15, and 20 pound band were enough resistance.  I used the 10 and 15 lb band because these exercises were more difficult for me.  I used the 20 mostly for the biceps and triceps curl type exercises.  Ab ripper x was difficult of course, but I did as many of the reps as I could.  I did have a recovery drink after my workout, but mainly because I am still sore from yesterday’s Plyometrics workout!!  OUCH!

For breakfast I had 3 egg whites, I didn’t want to eat 6 so I will record a half of a serving of protein.  I had a couple slices of low fat cheese and plain hot tea.  It seems like I have to give up coffee because I can’t stand to drink it black!  I have my snacks and lunch ready for work which is a P90X protein bar, yogurt, apple sauce, grilled lemon pepper fish filet, and yes, brussels sprouts.  For dinner I will fill in the blanks, meaning I will eat what ever I have left on my portions approach servings chart.  I keep track by crossing out servings as I go along.

Looking forward to tomorrow…….YOGA……a nice, long, quite, core working stretch!

    Hey Erin!
Good luck with P90X, I’m going to be starting it this week or at least by the weekend. I’ve been working out regularly for the last month by doing spinning classes and lifting free weights, but haven’t seen any changes. I want to drop 20-25 pounds. My husband’s sister gave us P90X and it has been sitting around for a bit…

I’ve decided to dust it off and see if it will work for me. I can’t wait to see your progression with this and I can’t wait to get started myself. I plan on continuing my spinning class 3 days a week and my other cardio work that I do on the other days along with P90X…

Hope to keep in touch with you…
Here are my stats: 5′4″ Current weight: 144 pounds Goal weight: 120
I know I won’t have the flat abs that I would like to have due to an emergency ulcer surgery that has left me with a 17 staple scar down the middle of my abdomen, but I would just like to get healthy and lean again…

    Take care!

    Hi Joy!

It’s nice to have others working out with me! We have similar goals so I hope we can help each other out along the way. I think with this program, you really do have to find motivation since your at home, where your comfortable, and where you have a fridge full of food!! We do have a similar goal, I am also hoping to get down to the 120’s! To be more goal orientated, I will say 125. Well good luck to you too and I’m sure we will talk regularly!

Erin – Nice job on the arms and shoulders! Good work finding the right weight – you and I both know as athletes picking the right weight is just as important as anything else.

Wondering if you have been doing any protein shakes? They usually work really well as a breakfast substitute (especailly if you blend in some bananas and strawberries). Also good after the workout for curbing your appetite. If it is something that you are/would want to do – I highly recommend GNC’s Chocolate flavored Whey protein. ALso a good idea to mix in L-Glutamine (amino acid good for muscle rebuilding)

Anyway – good luck tomorrow with yoga! It’s a long workout (105 minutes)

Also – On my first trial of P90X, I did my own blog for about 40 days (then I couldn’t keep up with the blogs so i stopped blogging) There’s some pictures and stuff on there that might be helpful to some of your following!

    Erin,
I am starting full force tomorrow. I started p90x once before and was seeing results, but I had to quit because I got too busy with school and work. I figured Christmas break would be a good time to pick back up on it. Good luck on your workouts. I just need someone to motivate me.

    Hi Joe!

Thanks for the encouragement! I do have whey protein powder that I do plan to use!! I was thinking of blending it with bananas and strawberries like you mentioned. I do need help curbing my appetite. I am following the nutrition plan pretty closely and to be honest, I am hungry a lot. Probably because my eating habits were horrible before and I was used to eating huge meals. I do have a recovery drink after my workouts, the one that’s recommended for use with the P90X.

Thanks for stopping by and I will be sure to check out your blog.

“Ab Ripper is only 16 minutes? Nice, this should be easy….” – before Brad’s first ab ripper session.

That was easily one of the longest, hardest 16 minutes of my life :)

LOL! I felt the same way!
