Day 32: Yoga X

Hello!  Today was Yoga X.  Both of my kids are home this week, my daughter is on her winter vacation, and they both decided to wake up early while I was doing my workout.  GREAT!!!  It wasn’t a total loss.  All I had to do to distract them was to turn on Sesame Street!  How funny is that!!  I used to watch that show when I was little, and I am sure my mother did too!  Now, 40 years later, kids are still in love with Elmo!!  So having said that, I was able to get through Yoga this morning with no problems!  I held crane for a couple seconds too.  You know what I realized doing this workout, it is tough, but Yoga outside of the P90X looks extremely hard!  Well I guess there are different levels, but if you think crane is hard, check out some real yoga expert moves!  I’m glad Tony thought about who would be doing the P90X and catered this Yoga video accordingly.  People who are experts at Yoga are usually in fantastic shape anyway!  Thank you Tony for making Yoga X for the yoga impaired!

So tonight is New Year’s Eve………..another holiday.  There will be drinks, appetizers, and snacks all over the place!  What ever shall I do!?!?!?!  I will eat a good dinner before hand and maybe a protein bar right before I get there.  I just had a lunch that was a little filling and I don’t feel good about it.  I might be getting too hung up on this eating situation, but I really want to loose weight.

I hope you all have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve!

First day of Back and Biceps

Hey Guys.  Today is day 31 of my P90X adventure and the workouts for the day were back and biceps and ab ripper x.  Being that this was the first time doing this workout, I am sore!  Also sore from day 29 and 30 still!  I guess the recovery week was really a break!  Anyway, there was nothing too difficult about this workout so I was really able to push myself.  I am still using the door attachment with the bands for my chin-up exercises, but I upped my weight to the blue 45 lb band.  Progress.  I like to doing bicep exercises.  My arms are big, but it’s not all muscle and I would like it to be!  Even though I know most of the fat is covering my triceps!  So I was actually using the green 40 lb band for some of the moves.  Yikes!  I liked it tough!  I did keep my reps in the 12-15 range to avoid bulk, but curling that green band is tough!

GUESS WHAT?!?!?  I did ALL 339 reps in AB RIPPER X!  Yesssssssssss!!!!  I did feel like it was a little difficult today, but I think thats because I was sore from the last two workouts.  But I got through them all!!!  My tummy is my #1 trouble spot so hopefully this will make those troubles go away!!  I know I started out with too much belly fat to end up with a six pack at the end of 90 days, but a smooth flat tummy will just have to do!  Or at least no rolls when I sit would be nice!

My diet is the same.  Nothing new and exciting here.

Tomorrow is Yoga X.  I could use a good stretch!  Although those chutta…..chuttaru….chuttarungas are hard on the arms and shoulders!!

TTYAL!!!

p.s. I’m getting a little bump in my arm! lol!

30 days down!!! =D

Hey Guys!  I just completed 30 days of P90X!  Even though phase two starts at day 29, this feels like a real milestone!  Today’s workout was Plyometrics.  You all know I hate Plyo, but I am getting better.  I just need to take a couple of breaks that are more than 30 seconds!  I mean, they just keep going and going!  The breaks they give are just not long  enough at this point!  But, with two longer breaks, I was able to get through the whole workout.  Each exercise isn’t really difficult to do, it’s just the intensity and speed in which you do them and the fact that you never stop moving throughout the entire workout!  FEW!  Even that sentence left me breathless!!!  I am still having a little trouble with my knee, so on a couple of the moves where you have to jump up and tuck your knees in, I had to do fewer reps.  I wish my knee would just heal already, but I don’t want to injure it further.

For breakfast this morning, I had an egg white omelette with green peppers, onions, chicken breast bits, and 2% cheese on top.  It was yummy!!  Not everything you eat when on a diet is bland and nasty!!!  You just have to be creative!  I also had a shakeology shake about an hour after I ate the eggs.  Just because I like what that stuff does to my insides (wont go into detail), and I need to make sure I am eating frequently and in little portions.  I am starting to eat a little too much for dinner again I think.  That’s because I don’t eat enough during the day so I’m starving by 6.  So as I said in previous posts, I am really going to try and eat every two hours making sure to have a protein bar two hours before dinner.

Now that my tummy has slimmed down a little, I hate that full feeling.  When you eat too much and your belly sticks out a little!  It bothers me!!!  But I have to remember that I have more than one goal with the P90x.  Yes I want a flat tummy, but I want to loose fat and weight, gain muscle, and improve my athletic ability.  And my lungs.  My lungs need to get in better shape!!!  So I think I am typing way too much, so I will end it here.

Talk to you all tomorrow!!!

Erin

p.s. week 4 update video will be up soon!

P90X Phase 2 has begun!

Hey guys!  Today was the start of phase 2, which is day 29.  My workouts for the day were Chest, Back, and Triceps, and Ab Ripper X.  A new workout, a new challenge.  There were a lot of push-up exercises which were hard for me, but I realized that I should do them on my knees to get more reps in.  Just like with chin-ups and using the bands.  I would rather modify and get a good set in then do one or two in bad form.  It was nice to do different moves today.  For most of the band exercises, I used either 5, 10, or 15 lbs.  I couldn’t go any heavier this time, but I did record everything so that I can up my weights next time.  I liked the workout, my upper body is a little sore which is good.  The whole muscle confusion thing seems to be working.  I think if you do the same thing all the time, you wouldn’t ever get sore past a couple weeks of workout out.

I am still doing well with Ab Ripper X.  Just a few short of doing all of the reps.  I was actually missing this workout last week.  I was thinking about sneaking it in on the stretch day, but I didn’t!  My schedule was all messed up anyway!

My diet is back on track today.  Christmas is over and all the leftovers are gone!  The one thing I hate about dieting, or eating differently than you normally do, is that moment of weakness that almost always happens.  When you eat something not a part of your diet or when you eat too much!  It’s almost like a binge!  I didn’t over do it on Christmas, but I ate like I used to.  It felt like I was getting a treat!  The Nutrition Plan diet really does work if anyone is questioning that.  I have lost 8 lbs already which I don’t think I would have if I didn’t follow the diet.  But I do miss some of the foods I used to eat!  Oh well.  I am benefiting from this program, no question so I am going to stick with it.

Day 28: Yoga and Practice!! OUCH!

OK, I will try my hardest not to mess up my weekly schedule ever again!  Doing Yoga X and having practice in the same day was not fun!  I did Yoga in the morning, which went great.  No complications, no complaints.  Then I had to coach my daughter’s team at 2pm, then had my own practice at 8pm.  Holy crap I was tired when I got home!  I had some cleaning up to do, but instead I just collapsed into bed and fell asleep!  Also, I had some soreness going on for me!  I didn’t even have the strength to write this post, which is why I am doing it today!  So I will never switch my rest day around again.  Lesson learned!

Core: UGH!

Today was core.  I didn’t like it any better than the first time!  But, it is my job to “do my best and forget the rest.”  Not all the exercises are impossible, I noticed today that every other one is!  Oh well.  I don’t have to do core again until the next recovery week.  Anyway, since I am behind a  day I will be doing Yoga X in the morning on Sunday.

Because it is the END of PHASE 1 (wow!), I took all of my measurements to see where I was at.  I don’t think I have an accurate body fat % reading because my son broke my tester.  Anyway here is what I came up with:

Day1:              End of Phase 1:

Weight         155                 147    :)

Body fat %     16                   14

Chest              35.5″             34.5″

Waist             36.5″            35″

Hips             36″                 35.5″

Rt thigh      25″                   25″

lft thigh        25″                 25″

rt arm            12.5″            12.5″

lft arm           12″                   12″

Not much of a change with the tape meausre, but I did loose 8 lbs and I can see a difference in my photos.  Speaking of photos, here are my week 4 photos:

I realized in earlier photos that I was holding my arms wrong.  I wasn’t even making a muscle!  Corrected that!

My first X Stretch workout-P90X Day 26

Hey everyone!  Merry Christmas!!!  Today is day 26.  It was supposed to be core, but since I took my rest day yesterday for the holiday, it’s X Stretch today.  Tomorrow I will do core, and I will either do Yoga later tomorrow night or Sunday morning.  I am still on track!  So about the workout.  I liked it.  It was kinda like Yoga, but much, much easier!  I love to stretch and I do believe that it is very important!  Not only for the P90X workouts, but for cheerleading too.  Especially since I am not as young as most of the other guys and gals on the team, I need to stretch these muscles a bit more!  When I was in high school I used to pull my hamstrings all the time because I wouldn’t take the time to stretch long enough.  Then I tried to hyperextend my toe-touch, and RIP!  Muscle pulled and out of commission for a few days!  If I didn’t have to stretch at practice on Sunday anyway, I would definitely do the X Stretch DVD every week.  All the stretches are pretty effective and I was able to do them all pretty well.  Sweet.

This is what I used to try and do:

Perhaps I can take a picture of mine and show you all how I compare to this!  Maybe one day during my P90X journey!

Day 25 was Christmas Eve

Hey all, I missed a day :(  It was Christmas Eve and I was gone all day.  Well, not in the morning, but I figured I would be home early enough to do my workout at night, but I wasn’t.  But no fear!  Since there is always a rest day each week, I will just push back my workouts 1 day and I will be caught up by Sunday.  No problem!

I didn’t overeat or get drunk, so I give my diet a C for the day.  Not a total failure!

But on a positive note, I had a great Christmas Eve with my family!  Hope you did too!
