P90X Review Day 66: The 75% done crisis

day66.jpg
EMERGENCY HELP. I flat out skipped the P90X today. Not good. I kept meaning to fit it in and I had some people stop by and they didn’t leave until 2am. By then I said screw the p90x, and went to bed.

This is dangerous. I have come so far. I really should be cranking it up a notch, not toning it down. Also, I feel like my intensity has plateaued. Although, I know I have gotten stronger by noticing how much more I can lift, I feel like I look the same now as I did on day 29. Shouldn’t I be much more ripped by now? Have I not been bringing it enough? Have I let myself get a little too lazy with my nutrition? Yes probably.

It seems like whatever creative endeavor I am in there comes a point 3/4 the way through where everything starts to fall apart. It seems like all the hard you have put in is going to be a waste. I think I have hit that mark. Please anyone out there experience this? Any suggestions for me to refocus and to really bring it for the last leg?

Do you listen to music when you exercise? If not play some music that gets you pumped up. You know the music I am talking about, the one where you here it your adrenaline starts pumping and your ready to do anything :P lol

As far as your nutrition goes, buy some p90x meal replacement and protein bars. Also if you want to see increased muscle mass, you should get on creatine. It is a all natural supplement that I am sure you have heard of lol

Just started reading a few weeks ago, really like the review. I don’t follow P90x strictly as I like to mix things up a bit more and don’t always have time for a 1 1/2 hour workout session most days of the week. But the workouts do get results.

I’m about 6 weeks into my own workout regime and last week I thought I was stuck at a big plateau. Then finally one day I just woke up BAM, there were the results. Sometimes you just have to keep plugging away.

Also, nutrition is key here. I once spent 9 months just hitting the gym and pumping iron almost every day and never saw much results past the first month because my diet wasn’t good enough. With a good diet I’ve seen more results in 6 weeks than i did in 9 months. If you want an easier to follow diet with solid structure I recommend the Abs Diet. I bet if you followed it you could start to get pretty cut during the next month. Check out http://www.menshealth.com/cda/topicpage.do?site=MensHealth&channel=weight.loss&category=abs.diet for most of the info without having to buy the book.

And no, I don’t work for anyone. I’m just a satisfied customer. :D

Okay now! stick to your diet! you are almost there hybernate if you have too. this is the breaking poing if you come this close and don’t get pumped WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY!!!! I WISH I could see in the future… If I could get to day 60 on a CLEAN DIET I would LOVE MYSELF. It’s like I have split personalities. One wants to be fit and knows exactly what to eat and the other LOVES CHINESE FOOD AND PIZZA. Actually, sometimes I wish I could get them both together chinese fried pizza…. DISGUSTING. Anyway, do it! I have heard that these last days are the best ones! the muscle is there, SHED THE FAT! go! go! go! and if you have to drink have one and MILK it all night and watch how stupid everyone else acts when they are drunk that is always entertaining! That’s what I am doing for the next EIGHT NINE DAYS.

I should go to bed but this P90X is messing with my sleep. i think the stress and the diet are keeping me up… perfect I want to wake up at the crack of dawn so I get it OUT OF THE WAY… I am SURE it will be way more fun on 3 hours of sleep! What is up with MY BRAIN! UGHHHHHHH! NOT SLEEPY AT ALL.
    GOOD LUCK!

no offense here, but this blog really makes me doubt if i would really want to take this on. The amount of time it consumes, and it just seems like i can get the same results doing my typical work out.

Hi Brian you can contact me at gvenegas@roadrunner.com

Brian this website actually got me to order the P90X and P90X+ is coming this December So, you have something to look forward to. But like I said that I ordered the P90X because of this site and I’ll tell you I made a commitment of 90 days but I like the feeling of being stronger and noticing that my body is transforming I am currently on my 35th day of this system and I feel great. I know that after my 90 days I will do P90X+ for maybe two or three cycles. There are people on their 1100 day of working out with this system. Their bodies look phenomenal I mean we’re talking 3% body fat.

I know it’s a commitment but look to the future and vision what your body will be like. And it’s only 1 hour of you whole 24 hours I mean people can make take action or make excuses they can’t do both. Just keep on pushing play and you will see what the end result hold for you.

Brian you have a lot of people looking up to. You are inspiring people to change their lives. You are not only doing your self good but you are doing good for people that want a change in ones lives. Just keep on pushing play. For everyone reading this to you the same, keep pushing play. Let’s bring it. You can see my transformation at http://www.milliondollarbody.com/yourmdbcoach

chris, no offense, but I disagree with you. I just think that taking a pic every day may not be the way to go. if you are to compare day 1 and 60 there is a big change. As to whether you can do it with your own workout… You may probably be able to do it if you stuck to a similar type regimen for 90 days… But,this gives you a bit more structure and much need change of the daily routine we are ALL USED to…. I started and I like that AT LEAST I have different things to look forward too each day. And, the diet if followed there is no doubt, will work. And, I guarantee that if Brian stuck to his diet strictly, WHICH HE WILL, for the last 20 something days he has left he will be ripped. The diet is the only thing that needs fine tuning in his case. He is doing great!

BRIAN, I had two p90xers tell me not to even do the 30 day pics. go from 1 to 60 then 90! Keep going your doing great, don’t get discouraged. Give it your all you have nothing to lose!

    all the best,
    Jenna

  13. 13 chris

That’s fine, I just think for the amount of time and commitment he is putting in he should have much better results, you could run for and do some light lifting for 45 minutes 5 days a week ( i have done it) and have as good if not better results, plus you can watch TV instead of Tony! I think what Brian has done is great, just not sure its worth what you have to put in.

Posted this last week because for some reason I could only see the links up to day 62. Anyways, hopefully this gives you some confidence to keep going:

I am on P90X Day 6, so I really appreciate this window into my future.

And by the way, I am kinda glad you’re not following the diet exactly. I’m doing my best to up my protein with more meat and whey protein drinks while lowering my carbs and just trying to eat healthy. You know, vegetables at lunch and dinner and all that.

Anyways, I keep flipping between your pics on Day 6 and Day 61 and you are WAY less doughy in the middle. Just take a look at the side pics! Your arms have clearly grown, especially the forearms. But the most surprising thing to me is your face. It looks way stronger, not to mention more confident. Not something I would have thought of, but there it is.

By the way, what I’d really like to see you do is post your measurements from Day 1 until now. Pics are one thing, but I want to see some numbers! Thanks.

hey man.. I know all to well about the loss of motivation 3/4 the way through a project. from what I’ve deduced from my own derelict endeavors is this: when I get close to the end of something I become less motivated because deep down there is a fear that my expectation will not be met at the end, so instead of suffering from my soon to be disappointment so I simply give up. this is obviously a never ending cycle brought on by unrealistic expectations in the beginning.

The only true remedy of this is follow through, from which a true perspective on future expectations can be gained. The reality of it all is that any endeavor that you pursue has real value and pushing through ¾ of the way through builds character. Remember you’re not only exercising your body but also your will.

Some things that have helped me with the 3/4th barrier are 1. keeping organized so that you are 100% aware of your status at all times making it harder to become overwhelmed and giving up out of frustration.
    2. Reevaluate your expectations at the 3/4 point to accept the true benefits of your endeavor and gauge more accurately what is to be expected when accomplished. This refocusing tend to give up a new appreciation for your project and enough umph to make it through.

    Good Luck

Brian where are you? I am on day 3. I feel good. Actually I am doing extra cardio to supplement, because I want to burn extra calories on the days I pump weight. Since the cardio is not my biggest enemy, I figure I will do it while I have energy:) Post some new pics! And, keep bringing it! You are almost there and you have progressed A LOT.

  17. 17 ace

You and I seem to have started the P90X program at about the same time so, I’ve been really watching your progress and blog. It has really helped me to gauge my progress along the way. That being said, I know it is really easy to get motivated by looking at the results other people have achieved. But I also think that can lead to our undoing as well if we aren’t careful. Not just in regards to P90X, but in life too. Everyone’s body will adapt to stimulus differently. Some are slow adapters, some are fast adapters. And not all of these adaptations that are occurring will be immediately visible.

Oddly enough for the first few weeks on the program I gained weight. Looking over the diet info, I was pretty sure I had my meals structured correctly so, I kept plugging along. It wasn’t until week 8 that I saw that I’d finally lost the weight, the five extra pounds and three additional ones. When I saw that I decided to look at what was different. The log of your reps and weights really helps here. I was doing so much more in terms of weight and reps it was crazy. The progress was there, it just didn’t manifest as I expected it.

Last week I did a 63 mile bike ride with some friends. It turned out to be a really windy, hilly affair and it completely sapped everyone but me. I kept having to slow down for them. I know i wouldn’t be riding like that without these workouts. I think it is so easy to focus on what you look like and sort of forget about what you are able to do. Don’t get me wrong looking good is great, but being able to be active and do things you enjoy because you are fit is important too.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article s Day by Day review of P90X, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

  19. 19 Mark

I am beginning the P90X soon, and have been inspired by your blog. Regarding motivation, have you thought about also measuring key points of your body with a cloth measuring tape? Namely your abdomen, biceps, chest etc etc. Sometimes it’s hard to notice little changes but as soon as you break out the tape, it all becomes so apparent. This may motivate you, it is very common to get into a slump which is (I am willing to bet) one of the biggest reasons that people quit part way through a program.

    Keep it up.

  20. 20 Dan

Dude, I feel the same way. This past couple of days I almost quit! I felt like I’m not making any more gains. I think my eyes are lieing to me. I’m getting the same comments from people who say they see a huge difference but I don’t see it in myself either. DON”T TRUST YOUR OWN EYES DUDE! Don’t give up.

Brian I have stopped by your website a few times… I have been thinking about purchasing the P90X for my hubby for Christmas… (since I have no faith I could do a pullup myself…LOL…)He is a workout nut… and I think he would love the challenge it looks like it brings. I have looked at the day one photo that you posted and then compare them with what you have achieved…. Your doing GREAT!!!! Most people don’t make strong commitments to working out daily… Probably 98% of Americans don’t… Just the fact that you have made it this far is INSPIRING!!! Remember…. even the most commited workout fanatics slip too. Its not always practical to try to exercise every day and while you need to to complete the program…its deffinetly not the “norm”.
On a lighter note… If “steven Venegas” asks you to meet him in a dark alley… RUN!!!…LOL…
    Good luck! your doing great!

  22. 22 Cindy

Oh… and as for not seeing the difference from day 29 til now…??? Look again… Your pecks have deffinetly VISABLLY changed. plus your getting more “cut”. Don’t compare yourself with everyone else. God made us each differently. When me and my hubby do the same workout… we both feel it in very different places… and we eat the same things…. and have alot of the same routines…
Just keep up the good work and you will feel better :) . Also I don’t know how much the P90X food line costs… But we buy Soy protien bars at Sams. Wonderful source of serious protien! And very cheap! PLUS they taste real good… came in a box with 2 flavors… chocolate and apple…. both delish!!!! Eatting healthy doesn’t have to cost a fortune…
