P90X Review Day 41: Ok this is getting boring

P90X Day 41 - photo
At first Kenpo X was one of my favorites and I was inspired to take up martial arts. But now I am getting bored by this P90X workout. Last time I did it I had fun, but this time I was watching the clock waiting for it to end. I am thinking I might replace this workout with a long run. Before I started the P90X this summer I did a lot of running. I started off with just a few miles each day. Eventually I was running 6 miles a day, and doing long runs once a week. On day I accidentally ran 12 miles. I am thinking that it would be nice to start that again. Or may at least swap on P90X workout to run while it is still nice outside. Perhaps then when I have had a break from Kenpo it will become fun again. I think I am encountering the problem of repetition. The P90X does do a good job at mixing things up, but things are starting to get a bit repetitive. To start to mix things up I am gonna start playing my own music over the videos. Luckily, the P90X has an option that you can turn the music off the video.

P90X Review Day 40: I own the P90X, it does not own me

P90X Day 40 - photo
So today I took a day off from P90X. I still took a picture but I didn’t have time for a workout. I realized that it is important to stay disciplined. But at the same time you must realize that doing the P90X is an attempt to make your life better, happier, healthier. You do not want P90X to become a self made prison. Its important to find that right balance. Don’t be so overtly strict that it inhibits you, and don’t be so relaxed that you slip and sacrifice your results. My modification is that I will skip today, do the Kenpo X tomorrow, and then do Legs and Back on Sunday.

So, I am going to go have some more fun. See you all tomorrow.

P90X Review Day 39: Downward Dog Magazine

P90X Day 39 - photo
So I woke up early to get my P90X Yoga X workout in before I drove down to the city. I did not get up early enough however, and I do only half the workout. What I did was skipped the balance section. So I did the entire vyasa sequence (the most intense part) and then the stretching part. Yoga X is easily the longest of the P90X workouts and sometimes its hard to fit it in. Usually it is not a problem because I like it so much. But I did unfortunately have to cut a corner today with the P90X. I am not happy about it though.

Last week I had hurt my wrist on Triceps P90X workout and the Yoga X was a struggle. But being back at full strength I was able to bring 100% intensity and focus to the workouts without having to worry about my arm. I have decided that I would be good to come up with a 20 minute Yoga routine to do every morning. I really feel like the Yoga lays a good foundation for the day, and also for any other exercise. It really opens your body and up. P90X offers a really good overview of many yoga moves.

P90X Review Day 38: Finally a real Pull Up Bar

P90X Day 38 - photo
So today I went back home for the night on my way down to NYC. This means that I do the P90X workout in my parents basement. Luckily we have a real pull up bar downstairs. Back in my dorm room I have to use the resistance bands, and I always feel like I am not getting the same results if I used a real bar. So it was exciting to be able to use one. This P90X workout will absolutely kill your biceps. By the last exercise where you do 8 reps of decreasing weight I could barely do any because my arms were so wiped out. I suppose that is a good thing and means that I worked hard.

Also, I did really well on Ab Ripper X. It is amazing how much easier the exercises have become. Before I was struggling to get through the bicycle moves, and now I breeze through them with strength and ease. It is a good way to tell that I am indeed getting stronger abs.

P90X Review Day 37: Plyo is gonna make you sweat

P90X Day 37 - photo
So I don’t know if it was the comment from yesterday about not seeing any differences, but I really brought it today with Plyometrics. This is the most insane of the workouts. You hope that you can be done only half way through. But today I pushed on through and nailed it all, pushing my body to the edge. The truth is that your body is capable of more then you think it is. It can be a challenge to press through the pain threshold. But when you do it really forces your body to get stronger and you see even better results. Despite the fact that I pushed myself really hard, I did not do the bonus exercises. My hope is that by phase three I am doing the entire workout with the bonuses.

P90X Review Day 36: I’ve got that old P90X feeling

day36.jpg
So today I got a second wind in my P90X review. The last few days I have been dogging it and not really feeling the power and intensity. Today, I worked out in the morning and really felt great. I also had a larger breakfast than normal, which makes me believe that I should be eating more. Anyways, it was the shoulders, chest, and tricep workout, and I brought it on every exercise. I still can’t even do one modified one-armed pushup and that was upsetting but besides that I felt confident with every move. I felt really good before, during, and after the workout. I really enjoyed it today. This also leads me to believe that working out in the morning is better for me. Exercise releases a lot of good chemicals in your brain and it will make you happy for the rest of the day. I felt like I had more energy and I walked around campus with big smile. I hope to ride this second wind for many many more days.

P90X Review Day 35: Bringing it late at night

P90X Day 35 - photo
So, I skipped yesterday and I came very close to skipping today. Again, it was a factor of time, I guess this was just a busy weekend for me. But I did my Kenpo X workout starting at 12:15 in the nighttime. (Technically I didn’t workout on Sunday). But it felt great. I was worried about getting to much energy and not being able to sleep, but I still had some work to do afterwards and I got to bed around 2:30 — which is not so bad for a college student. I brought the intensity level up from previous times. I have said in the past that Kenpo X is a little easy. But this time I really put my body into every move and it finally got my heart really pumping. If you are having the same issue with Kenpo X just put more body into it.

P90X Review Day 34: How about tomorrow instead?

P90X Day 34 - photo
So I realized at the end of the day that I did not do my Kenpo workout. The day went by and I just didn’t fit it in. This goes against the exact wisdom of my post yesterday where I said that no matter what you should just put the workout in and do it. It will make you feel better etc. However, today it wasn’t that I didn’t want to do it, it was that I just didn’t seem to have time. So because tomorrow is supposed to be a rest day I will just switch days and do Kenpo X tomorrow. I think that this is fair. I must admit though I am afraid that Tony Horton may come and hunt me down.
